Polyamory Pride Dragons

Polyamory Dragons Flag, designed by Al Neun, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Polyamory Pride Dragons are an alternate polyamory pride symbol designed on two basic principles:

  1. The standard Polyamory Pride Flag is widely considered to be garish.

  2. The world was better when more flags had dragons on them.

The Polyamory Dragon Flag is by no means meant to be a replacement for the standard flag or any of the proposed alternatives, but instead an additional symbol that members of the polyamorous community can use to represent themselves and recognize each other! The colours were selected as a slightly-less-eye-searing homage to the 1995 flag. The original iteration of the dragon flag was designed by Al Neun in 2022, and is available for personal use under a Creative Commons BY-SC-NC 4.0 License.

Individual iterations of Polyamory Pride Dragons are copyright their respective creators, but anyone is welcome to make their own version of the design! The specifications are released under a CC-BY-4.0 license, which allows for commercial use of derivative creations. The specifications are as follows:

The Polyamory Pride Dragons symbol consists of three dragons - red, yellow, and blue - arranged in an interlocking knot visually reminiscent of a heart against a black or dark grey field.

  • The dragons may be of any tradition and do not strictly need to be reptilian in nature. (If the artist says it's a dragon, then it's a dragon!)

  • The knot can be of any style, it does not strictly need to be a trinity knot. Ideally the overall silhouette should resemble a heart shape. Artists are encouraged to use a knot of their own design, or relevant to their personal cultural background!

  • The colours do not need to be "true" red, yellow, or blue and may be adjusted to suit a palette. They should still read to a viewer as red, yellow, and blue in the context of the palette.

  • The positioning of the red, yellow, and blue dragons do not need to have any specific relationship to each other. They may be structured in any configuration.

  • The black or dark grey field may be omitted when it suits the usage of the symbol.

  • The dragons ARE dating each other, and they ARE in love.
